Educational Opportunities

If you would like to pursue more education or learn a new job skill, our local community colleges and universities have offerings for veterans:

Campbell University: Student services for veterans are available at Fort Liberty and Pope Air Force Base and include advisement, registration, deferred payment plans, and purchase of textbooks. Main campus is in Buies Creek, NC, which is located 28 miles north of downtown Fayetteville. CU is a member of the Service members Opportunity College System and offers a number of Associate and Bachelor degrees with concentrations in a wide variety of major fields of study. Courses from these programs are offered on post five times a year in nine-week cycles during the daytime, evenings, lunch hours, and weekends. In addition to using Army Tuition Assistance or VA Education Benefits, military students, their Family members, and North Carolina residents may apply for the North Carolina Legislative Tuition Grant.

Central Carolina Community College: At Central Carolina Community College, we understand the unique needs of service members and their spouses. This is why we work to make it possible for you to finish your college education, regardless of location. Whether you want to earn points toward promotion or to transfer credits toward a bachelor’s degree, our staff will work to build a plan that’s right for you. Department of Defense’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities Program: Education coaches can assist veteran’s spouses in exploring multiple resources and information to reach their educational goals.  To contact a career coach, call 800-342-9647 or visit https://myseco.militaryonesource.mil.

Fayetteville State University: 30% of students attending FSU and many faculty and staff are veterans. 910-672-1111, 1200 Murchison Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28301.

Fayetteville Technical Community College: A member of the Service members Opportunity College System who offers associate degrees in many areas, community education programs, and vocational diplomas. It is the largest program of its type in the State of North Carolina. Courses from these programs are offered on- and off-post five times a year in nine-week cycles. 910-678-8400.

Fort Liberty Army Continuing Education Center: Professional guidance counselors staff two Education Centers and provide a full range of adult and continuing education counseling. Individual counseling is available during normal duty hours on a walk-in basis. Contact to schedule an appointment Monday-Friday at (910) 396-6721/8722 or (910) 908-0927.

Methodist University is proud to offer a top-notch education to military personnel and veterans. No matter your circumstance or schedule, we can work with you to help you earn a degree. We do our best to understand the wants and needs of our military students, veterans, and their families. We also offer affordable on-campus programs and fully-online programs to veterans, their spouses and children, as well as active duty service members. Better yet, Methodist University was named a current Military Friendly® School (Gold) and a Military Friendly® Spouse School, and Military Times recently awarded us their Best for Vets designation. The Fort Liberty Office is located at the Liberty Training and Education Center (LTEC), B Wing, Room 103, 4520 Knox Street, Fort Liberty, N.C.

Richmond Community College: Richmond Community College is proud to partner with the Student Veterans Association to provide a great atmosphere for veterans to transition from soldier to student, as well as opportunities for community awareness and support. Robeson Community College: Robeson Community College is proud to serve our military veterans and their families. The Office of Veterans Services, located in the Financial Aid Office in Room 1302 of Building 13, coordinates services to over 100 veterans, dependents, guardsmen, and reservists attending classes and receiving veterans’ educational benefits. Sandhills Community College: The Military & Veteran Success Coach at SCC is a great place to start and is available to support and assist you from application to graduation. The role of the coach is to assist with applying for education benefits, connect students to support services, and communicate deadlines, requirements, & changes in VA regulations. Agricultural Education Programs

Heroes to Hives: This is a free online beginning beekeeping program for US Armed Service Members (Veterans, Reservists, Active Duty, or National Guard members), dependents of participating service members, Gold Star family members and surviving spouses of US veterans, http://www.heroestohives.com/.

Veterans Agricultural Training and Education Program (VATEP): a six-month, no-cost, comprehensive program covering the agricultural basics needed to start, run, market, and secure resources to start or grow your own farm. It’s designed to take any skill level and prepare them to farm upon exit of the program. Participants will have the opportunity to work with each aspect of the farm’s production offerings, develop a plan and implement it onto the farm, and manage the business aspects of agricultural production on the farm while attending lectures online throughout the course. The course is dependent on you completing lectures and practicing the applications on their Sanford, NC farm three times per week. Some weekend attendance will be required, specifically in the final two months of the course. 252-725-4875.

NCWorks Veterans Portal and NCWorks Career Center: This collection of resources provides services for veterans, transitioning service members, and eligible spouses to obtain employment. North Carolina for Military Employment – NC4ME: NC4ME hosts a variety of events designed to connect high performing military talent to career opportunities. Below, you’ll find a list of upcoming networking events, structured hiring events, and career expo events hosted by NC4ME.  

Onward to Opportunity – O2O: O2O is the nation’s leading career preparation and training program for the military-connected community. Transitioning service members, veterans and military spouses bring valuable skills and experience to civilian careers. So whether you are looking for no-cost training and professional certifications through Onward to Opportunity or continuing a life of service through our Veterans in Politics Program, you will enter your civilian career path with a leg up on the competition and resources by your side.


Vocational Rehabilitation Services (available in every county in North Carolina)

Services are provided to persons with physical, mental or emotional impairments which result in a substantial impediment to employment. Scholarships

Fisher House FoundationThe Fisher House Foundation provides scholarships to children of active, reserve, and retired service members. Additionally, through the National Military Family Association, spouses are eligible to apply for scholarships that may be used to help pay for everything from GED’s to PhD’s, professional licenses and certifications, including re-licensure, business and entrepreneurial expenses, supervised clinical hours, continuing education courses, and more. For a complete source of scholarships available nationwide and check eligibility: https://search.militaryscholar.org/
