Both the state of North Carolina and VA offer dental care support, listed below. In addition, there are some other area free or low-cost options for dental care services.
VA Veterans Dental Benefits and Eligibility: VA offers comprehensive dental care benefits to certain qualifying Veterans. Over 690,000 Veterans were provided dental care in Fiscal Year 2023. To better understand if you are eligible for VA dental care, check out What VA dental care benefits do I qualify for? as well as the Dental Benefits for Veterans document. If eligible but not yet enrolled in VA health care, you can apply online using the Apply for health care benefits webpage. If not eligible, Veterans enrolled in VA health care can purchase dental insurance at a reduced cost through the VA Dental Insurance Program (VADIP). Additionally, see the “Not Eligible?” tab section below for more information.
If you are a Veteran who has recently served (e.g. OEF/OIF/OND), you may be entitled to a one-time course of free dental care, but you must apply for dental care within 180 days of your discharge (under conditions other than dishonorable) from a period of active duty of 90 days or more.

Baptists on Mission Mobile Dental Bus ACCESS TO FREE OR REDUCED COST DENTAL CARE: Access to free for reduced cost dental care is not readily available. Public low cost dental clinics are scarce in North Carolina. Baptists on Mission have two mobile dental units which are used by churches and other organizations to sponsor free dental clinics. These mobile units are used about 180 days each year throughout NC. These clinics are available to patients who do not have dental insurance and cannot otherwise afford to see a dentist. The services provided are limited to restorations (fillings) and extractions. The churches that sponsor these clinics determine their own target patient group; not all clinics are open to the general public. To find out if there is a church or organization in your area sponsoring the Baptists on Mission mobile Dental Ministry, email:[email protected] . Be sure to include the city and county in which you need services.
